A race series for sub-1500cc production-modified historic GT cars incorporating 'A-Series Challenge' The attraction of racing small capacity race cars has always been an accessible option to the club racer.
Necessity being the mother of invention saw independent constructors taking somewhat mundane drive-trains and skilfully extracting the best use of motor and chassis, which led to the more creative of these entrepreneurs building their own cars, often with limited budgets and compromised facilities.
Speedwell, WSM, Lenham, Ashley, Turner and other less well known marques created a mainstay of accessible club GT racing in the '50s and '60s. Many were so successful that they competed in International events - often stealing the honours from far more exotic machinery.
That so many were powered by the ubiquitous BMC A-series engine holds the reason why these 'pocket-rocket' GT cars are still so within reach of the historic club racer. With the mainstay of this series supported by such cars, it may be easy to forget their contemporaries: Alfa Romeo SZ's, Triumph Spitfires, Fiat Zagatos - all of which are welcomed to run in this exciting series.
Anyone who witnessed this year's Fordwater Trophy at Goodwood's Revival meeting will testify that the racing in this category was as spectacular as Goodwood's famed Tourist Trophy race!
