Is It Possible To Carry Out A Full Service From £59 As Some Garages Offer?

motor mouth2

As a garage owner I often see other garages with A boards at the side of the road advertising full services from anywhere between £59 and £69 and I just can't see how it can be done.

A full service to me is that all filters are replaced, engine oil replaced, Spark plugs checked and replaced if required, all brakes inspected (possibly stripped and cleaned) with the wheels removed, all lights checked, all levels checked and topped up, all tyres checked for wear and inflation including the spare and all locks hinges and check straps lubricated.

So with good quality oil costing around £25 upwards for the average car plus another £40 to £50 for all the filters ie:- oil, air, fuel and pollen, a further £8 to £16 for a set of plugs we are already up to £80 and we still have to add labour and VAT.

So if you buy on price, what are you getting for your money and is the service your paying £60 for, going to bring your vehicle up to a safer more economical state than when you left it at the garage.

ARE YOU GETTING VALUE FOR MONEY, OR ARE YOU BEING RIPPED OFF

First and foremost, your car has to be a safe form of transport for you and your family and skimping on cheap servicing is not in my opinion, an acceptable option. Secondly in this time when money can be tight for some people, the idea of a service is to keep you car in the most economical state as possible.

So next time you see that advert that offers a full service for your car and family taxi,for only £60, just think what can be done for such a low price.
Is it worth going for the cheap option or will you get better value going for a proper service carried out buy a good reputable independant garage.
